Product Review: self tanning. St Tropez

st tropez, best slef tanner, self tanning, product review, beauty blog, crashingred

EveryBODY loves tan because makes you look slimmer, hides skin tone imperfections, make less noticeable cellulite and simply because it’s sexy! Yet sun baking seems like the easiest solution, it is not always attainable and not that great for your skin either. So we’ ll opt for a fake self tan to save some $$ on visiting tanning salons.

I have tried different products: from instant self tanners till gradual tanning moisturisers; and different brands – Garnier, L’Oreal, Dove, Clarins, etc. So I have something to compare with my new product – St Tropez Gradual Tan. Always on a look out for the best, I recently bought it to see whether it really delivers what ads promise and present you with the results.

The promise:

St Tropez fake sun tan, self tanning, before and after, advertising

“A gentle hydrating body moisturiser with a touch of self-tan for natural healthy-looking radiance. Enriched with aloe vera, this nourishing body moisturiser combines serious skin care benefits with a healthy touch of bronze …will give you smoother skin while building a gradual golden tan… Innovative Aromaguard™ fragrance technology eliminates the tell-tale self tan aroma by a minimum of 70% and instead gives a beautiful subtle fragrance”

Reality:

St Tropez fake sun tan, texture

1)      The product moisturises your skin very well – must be aloe-vera ingredients are really working. As I do have dry skin, moisturising qualities are important for me.

2)      I also used St Tropez tanner for my face and was really happy with the result! So, another advantage – you can save on buying a special tanning product for your face.

3)      Yes, its smell is nice, subtle and disappears completely after an hour or so after application.

4)      Easy to apply, smooth silky texture (see below photos) slides evenly and is absorbed quickly. This is the great, as some other brands take ages to absorb. So you don’t have to walk around undressed for hours.

5)      Another thing – it does not leave annoying marks on your hands, towels and your clothes. Yes, some other self-tanners can harm heavily your crisp white shirt.

6)      The color looks natural. Bronze – not orange, see photos below. For a full length appearance – see this post. Appears fully within 3 – 4 hours. So, as that’s not a quick solution to masking your milky-white legs before the night out, I would recommend applying it over night.

7)      Finally, it comes off nicely! Which is another great thing about St Tropez as some other products may give you funny looking blotchy skin when you stop using them regularly.

Conclusion:

All in all a very good quality product, definitely for the pale ladies wanting to look healthy and also for slightly tanned ones wishing to enhance their ‘bronziness’. Dry-skinned ladies will also enjoy the hydrating formula. Extra-points for no smell and being suitable for both body and face! Not for the hardcore fake-tanners as it creates only a subtle yet natural tan.

St Tropez Gradual Tan has a decent size, 200ml, and comes in 2 shades:

Light to medium
Medium to dark (I use this one)

$25 (was on sales) in Priceline.

Note: I bought this product myself and this review is my own initiative. If a product was sent to me or I was paid for a review, it will be disclosed. I appreciate your trust and will continue provide recommendations based on my own experience.

Easy how-to guide for self tanning will be in one of my next posts.

Hope you found this review useful:) Would love to know what you think about fake tans and as always, looking forward to reading your comments!

Stay beautiful and enjoy the upcoming long weekend!!!

Great review hun, and the before/after shots really help. I don’t generally use self-tanner because I can’t stand the smell but the fact you mentioned the smell disappears might make me give it a try.

I am so glad you did this review! Despite living in Southern California, I am pasty white. I hate going into the sun because I burn instantly. I have tried self tanners and almost all have failed leaving just a tragic mess of orange everywhere looking like I should be in line at the next audition for Willy Wonka as an oompa loompa. I hear great reviews about St. Tropez and will definitely try it out this summer so I wont stand out in the sea of tanned people. Thanks!

@lilit yes, I was surprised that it was not smelly too:)
@Angel – I think they sell them online! So give it a go… and let us know how you go!
@Angela – It is like a real tan. It’s a pity I had to disclose my secret about “fabulous european skin”
@Haute Style – Not sure if it’s still on sale in Priceline… but they do run sales often so you have a good chance of getting a good price!

I read your review a few months ago and decided to try it. I live in Melbourne and St Tropez self tanning products have helped me through the winter and I just wanted to thank you for your review as I have always been skeptical as i didnt want to look like an oompa loompa but St Tropez really does work well. I have found faceache.com.au who are Ozzie to be slightly cheaper than priceline and some chemists so worth taking a look but they dont have the full range.
