A short guide to dressing up for Fashion Week
Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival is on. Same as one of many attendees, I am trying to put together an outfit that will stand out. To solve this dilemma, and to help out other fashion obsessed folks, I have decided to create a short guide to dressing up for a fashion week.
Dear reader, please note that today’s talk is not about the usual fashion blogger uniform, i.e. floppy wide brimmed hat, sheer maxi skirt and Jeffrey Campbell platforms. Rather, this post is about something different. As the best dressed of the Paris and London fashion weeks prove there is no need to create a look flamboyant from head to toes unless your name is Anna Dello Russo. To make a statement, it is enough to add one flashy piece to your outfit. It may be shoes, hat, sunnies or a bag.
The images showcase this idea providing you with a few options that will guarantee the street style photographers will be fighting for a snap of you!
Evidently, Miuccia Prada is the designer to go for a wearable pieces that will make you stand out from the crowd. My bank account does not always approve Prada’s price tags, so I will be looking at more realistic options. If I had more free time, I would certainly make my own dress. But in these time demanding days of motherhood my options will be limited to a simple DIY. Something to compliment an outfit created out of whatever is currently in my wardrobe.
Below is my inspiration to serve this purpose. High collar & broach/classic chic as seen at Chanel. Maybe if you are brave (crazy) enough hot pants paired with jacket as Louis Vuitton suggests. A moody hoodie created by Rick Owens or fluffy sport-chic offered by Dolce & Gabbana?
I hope you find this post useful and next time won’t be breaking your mind trying to come up with a look to surprise the Fashion Week (or your neighbors, as let me confess, I often do). If attending fashion events is not in your plans, please don’t be upset! These looks can be easily adopted for a ‘barbie’ at your neighbours. I’m sure your fluffy tutu paired with sneakers and red sunglasses will get everyone’s attention :)
xx

Thank you for taking time to leave a comment! However, the comments section has been playing up recently. It's only working if you leave your name & email. Thanks for understanding, Maria xx
I adore the Prada sunshades; currently thinking of purchasing a pair.
They are of course a bit different but I like that. And of course I adore all the Prada footwear;-)
Haha, love this post, but I think I’m not brave enough to wear those items! :S
xx,K.
Haha, great guide. I’m never daring enough to pull anything like this off though!
Hello! Let me tell you that I just loved to read this post! Very good indeed!
Kisses! :)
Love all those sunnies and hats..so cool! I’d wear a furry skirt, have been looking at one actually, but I enjoy one out there piece teamed with low key stuff, instead of all out there outfits!!Have a great day petal!! xxxoox
Good tips for those who want to be photographed. At PFW in Feb I walked across the park just because of a girl in a yellow skirt. Xxxx
I am so obsessed with Prada’s Baroque sunglasses. They are incredible! xo style, she wrote
Those are some major sunnies! As well as the footwear! I guess I am just more of a classics fan, rimless chanel sunglasses and a pointy toe stiletto! So sorry to hear you cannot attend the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week event, but your daughter sounds too cute! Some days I feel like I am not getting any sleep either! Thank you for stopping by, and you have a fantastic blog! Would you like to follow each other?
Hiya thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog – looks like we have a lot in common as you said – how fab!

I adore the baroque sunshades; just got myself a pair this weekend;-)
LOL! Great guide there Maria! You should add, that this also applies to those “fashion events” you get invited to. Forget about dressing up in classic pieces, even if they make you look gorgeous. Dress WILD, with ONE HUGE statement piece to draw attention. That will get your photos taken and shared everywhere. :p
For some reason I was reading this post tonight and saw your comments. Not that I have Disqus – i can actually respond… you’re so right! Even at the most recent MBFWA – the more strange your outfit is OR more expensive OR if your name Lara Bingle – everyone will photograph you. Classics – no one cares about that anymore. And since, we aren’t Lara Bingles neither we have spare $15K to blow on fashion week wardrobe – the only choice we have dress weird. Like you know, that YOLO jumper or the crazy DIY beanie (LOL) everyone wanted to take pic of it!
