Living life with a sparkle

appletiser get your sprakle on project, smile

This post is a bit different, it’s personal and that’s exactly why I’m excited to share it with you today.

I was asked as part of the Appletiser “Get your sparkle on” project to share 5 rules I live by. You may have already seen some of the fashion related rules I shared on my Instagram (you can trace them and see what other bloggers posted via hashtag #appletisersparkle).

But today I’m sharing more, I’m sharing the unwritten rules I live my life by. Rules that helped me to shine even during difficult times. Rules that lead me to where I am now and rules that no one else but life taught me. If this post brings a sparkle to your day and a smile to your face, I’ll consider my task is complete.

1. Smile

A smile is the easiest way to make an instant connection, to melt hearts and be forgiven. Don’t underestimate the power of your smile. A nice genuine smile can be worth more than all money in the world. Be generous with your smiles, you may brighten up someone’s day just by smiling at them. We need more kindness in this world and smiles are the easiest way to contribute.

2. Believe

Believe in your dreams, no one else but you can make them come true. Don’t ever give up on your goals and dreams, keep believing in yourself even if no one else is believing in what you do. When I decided to move to Australia, people thought I was crazy. But now I’m healthy, I have a beautiful family and can do what I want for a job (i.e. write this blog). Mind you, all these things were impossible in the city I lived in. Believing in my crazy dream helped me to get out.

3. It’s the little things…

I have already wrote about what brings me happiness in this post but I’ll repeat it again –

It’s the precious moments in the everyday that constitute happiness. Sunset, your loved ones laugh, the sound of waves or good news from your friends. These little things are all around us, we just need to notice and appreciate them. No one and nothing else will make you happy but yourself…

4. Don’t rush to fall in love it will come…

How often do we hear another love story and think that only in fairy tales do such things happen.  I was one of those people but suddenly and completely unexpectedly that day came. It will come to you too, there is someone very special in this world with whom you’ll have all the things they talk about: chemistry, butterflies in your belly, no questions and endless happiness. You just can’t predict when it will happen. So back to point #1 – Keep believing, love will find you.

5. When in doubt wear red!

Well, I couldn’t help it. Embrace red, it’s the colour of passion and bravery. There’s scientific evidence that suggests that people who wear red are feeling more empowered on that day. If you think red doesn’t suit you – you just need to find your perfect shade. If wearing red clothes is too much for you, wear red nail polish or lipstick.

LOVE, love, love this post. You’re such an inspiration Maria :)

I believe if you surround yourself with positive friends & family then they become the catalyst to achieving your dreams. All great achievements begin with one small idea :)

I love this post Maria – how much nicer would the world be if everyone smiled a bit more? My hubby wrote a guest post for me a while ago about his 5 life lessons and one of them is to smile and be happy and be nice to people – everyone enjoys the company of happy people! I also believe in finding joy in the little things, a great coffee or hugs with my little girl.

My ONE rule that I live by is: Trust your gut instincts. This is what gets me by and keeps me alert. That way I won’t fall hard on my face. ;)

    1. Make mistakes. We are not born perfect. We can improve and learn from our mistakes.
    2. Smile every day. It’s not that much of an effort to make someone else’s day brighter and you’ll receive a smile back!
    3. Treasure what you have. Remember when you are being served for dinner that you are fortunate to have something on your plate.
    4. Give and be generous. Donating and helping out others will make your life much more happier.

I hope my life rules are able to help inspire others!

Forgive: but not necessarily forget, as there is always a lesson to be learned. Forgiveness is essential for inner peace.

lovely post, especially about the red, its my fave colour :]

I live by ‘Believe’, but another rule i absolutely live by is “Do and defend what makes you happy” I’ve lived a very rough bringing up, especially during my teenage years, and I have always defended my happiness within reason. It had kept me sane and led me to be happy with my life where I am right now.

Apart from the ones you’ve stated above which I think are awesome and ones I follow myself, I also have a few others :)
    1. Make something everyday
    2. Carpe diem
    3. Shoot for the stars, for if you fail, you’ll land amongst the clouds

    My 5 Rules
Think before you speak, don’t just react
Listen to the quiet voice within for guidance, it will never let you down
Don’t judge others as you will surely find yourself wrong
A smile and a friendly word costs nothing, it can save a life
Live in the moment and try to look on the funny side of life

Don’t sweat the small stuff – I always get into a huffy puffy about little things that are out of my control. My 2013 aim would be don’t sweat the small stuff and you can control your reaction to it. Hoping that I don’t lose sight of the bigger picture!

    What a great post!

My motto is: do everything with love. I mean, what is the point, if you don’t? :)
