If I were a boy

masculine style, how to style suspenders, bow tie, runway trend 2012, australia fashion blog

Cue pants, Zambessi business shirt, vintage suspenders, silk belt as a bow tie, Prada loafers

If I were a boy then I wish to live in XIX century or at least beginning of XX. Hats, suspenders, high collars, cute bow ties and shoes with big buckles… I love them all as much as I love horses and guns… Moreover, I shall confess that at tender age of 5, I requested my family not to call me Maria but Vasily and that I was not a girl anymore but a sailor. I took over my little brother’s toy sniper gun, my granddad’s sailor hat and also made grandma buy me a costume that looked like a sailor’s uniform. That was my primary attire (yes, with the gun carried around as the main accessory) up until I grew out of that fashionable costume. It may seem strange now but I definitely rather preferred to be a boy at that stage of my life.

So when earlier this year all runways were screaming masculine style, I knew my time had come. Plus, you know, it’s nice to wear something different from time to time. Something like say, my man’s suspenders. Not to mention, I was actually the one who bought those suspenders for him. And yes, you’re right, the purchase was pre-planned :)

So what do you think of a masculine style for women? Tempted or not?

You are interpreting this boy-ish outfit prefectly!!! I love those suspenders!
Asos clutch quality is definitely acceptable for that price. I have 3 of them and they are more resistent than Zara ones….

WOow so maybe a sort of “Glam Cliché” (BUT beyond all an Obvious reality Here), There is nothing better than the male vestiary to extol The Femininity (§ the charisma) of One who knows how to play with it ! Like a “stylish paradox en trompe l’oeil” . . .
ps: These suspenders sound like the Retro Glamorous twist, far to be accessory I must add !

I love suspenders! You look so smart and sexy wearing them :) 12-15 years ago female suspenders were a hot thing in Russia (at least in part of Russia where I am from) and I used to wear them everyday :) miss that time, lol

I think you look amazing in that outfit. i truly love the suspenders look and think it is perfect for any time either for work, shopping or even a night out on the town. my boyfriend love wearing his suspenders so one day i was going out with the girls so i put on a ruffled white shirt and black wide leg trousers and as i was just about to leave i saw his black pair so i thought i would give them a go. everyone gave such great feedback then i ran into my boyfriend and he just grined and said that i look better in them than he does. so from that moment onwards i fell in love with suspenders and now we both share them but i probably have more than him and also wear them more often than him. so go on girls give them a go and i bet you will be hooked.
