Turquoise, gold and pearls
Turquoise is one of my favourite colours. I designed and made this dress myself as that’s the easiest way to get something that matches my vision without endless hours of shopping. I should say that each stage of my life has had its own colour. I remember a teenage obsession with black and coming after that pink and white periods. This dress was made during my turquoise phase in 2005. Its design encompasses everything I loved then (and still do) – stretch organic cotton fabric, V-cut décolleté, clean silhouette and open back.
I wore the dress last weekend for my friend’s wedding at the Coolum beach. Light yet chic it was perfect for such an occasion and the subtropical Queensland climate. Additionally, its A-line silhouette helped to camouflage my baby bump (6 months now!). To add some luxury – golden and sea pearl necklaces combined, golden bracelet and matching golden open heels. The only thing I had to buy to complete my look – Diva’s faux pearl earrings for $8.
Yes dear readers, $8 was the cost of my entire outfit and that is what I love about styling – creating a million dollar look without splurging. The saved money went on the wedding present. So next time before you buy a new dress for a costly occasion, review your wardrobe once again and you may discover some treasures. Like I did with this beautiful DIY dress marked 2005!
Dress – DIY
Earrings – Diva, $8
Necklaces – mum’s present
Heels – Zoe Wittner acquired in 2007
