Weekends: now and then

weekend outfit, bassike shirt

As I sat down to write this post about my weekend outfit, I realised that these denim cut offs, believe it or not, were bought almost exactly 5 years ago. A chain of strange events led to that purchase. Back then, blonde me and my blonde girlfriend were 2 students travelling from Brisbane to Sydney in a tiny and sad looking (very) old car. Our road trip came to an abrupt ending when it broke down in the middle of nowhere around 10pm one night. That was indeed a scary experience!

Eventually we made it to Sydney, without means and carrying all of our possessions like gypsies. The epic trip broke not only our car but also our minuscule student budgets. We’d never accounted for catching a cab from God-knows-where to Newcastle in the middle of the night. So imagine my elation when one cold night while trying to find a bus stop I found $500!  Seriously, at that time it was like finding a million dollars. I split the money with my travelling companion and the next day, we went shopping. These shorts were a part of the spoils of that shopping ‘spree’.

Now I live in Sydney, have my own family, my hair is brown and when I need to travel interstate, I fly. I’m still wearing those shorts though. Not for any particular reason, they just make me smile.
